Ahh, creating stuff. Wonderful thing to do, that. I think one of the major contributors to my rolling ball of creativity was when i made a calculator in Python. Took three hours, mainly due to an assload of errors, and it was very simple, unable to even take decimals. But i made it from the ground and up, from a lowly TXT file, and boy, was i proud. Later on, i bumped into Cortex Command, and that REALLY got the ball rolling. I quickly started to like modding, and later i even got into pixel art. :) (After being thumped repeatedly over my pillow-shaded sprites, mind you)

Also worth mentioning is that here in HTX, we actually have a class where the main purpose is to learn how to create stuff. Mainly fairly large projects that span over several weeks, but it's pretty cool.

I'm pretty sure the most complex thing I've ever made was a random luck based game in RPG Maker.

...Yeah.

I'm making something right now, but progress is slow. Mainly because I'm lazy. Not because I don't want to make this, dear god I think it would be brilliant when it's finished but just because I am very easily sidetracked.

For example- I'm off to play Quake III.

I really enjoyed reading this, its really well written.
I felt that way when I made my first mod, now, I can't stop modding.

I tried reading a math book thing once but got totally confused. (There were so many terms I've never heard of before)

pyro you are so silly

First of all a small rant about maths. I wouldn't suggest learning most things from a maths book, except trigonometry, and Pythagoras theory as they are almost the only things that have a practicle day to day use in a maths book.

ignore this guy

he doesn't have a clue how much math you use if you actually want to program games etc

Not just programming. If you know something, you tend to find a use for it. But if you only have a hammer, you're not going to try to nail in screw unless you are miles the rat and possibly braindead. (these are the same thing)

Wow, Pyro, You've inspired me to do great things. I think I'm going to go ahead and release my product!

The Amazing Staticator 2000!

How long have you wished that you could glue paper to things, but without the glue? Not many of you, but
you will realize what you were missing when you try my product!

A simple swipe of the paper over this device will tear all of it's electrons away, so it will stick to anything, without the mess!
Feel like you don't have enough papers glued to the the ceiling? Easily Remedied with The Staticator!

How does this mind-blowing device work? It uses the Amazing technology invented by Van De Graff himself!
It tears electrons off the victim paper and it makes it attract to objects with more electrons!

It works like this, but slightly less dangerous.

Did I mention it does not require any glue? All of the fun with none of the mess!

Go out and Buy it today!

You'll only be shocked if you touch the metal plate. ;)

Also, I really made a stirling engine (it didn't work) but it felt good. So I guess that's one good thing.

Post Re: Go make something.
I tried making an electricity generator but it failed because the magnets were crap. on a whim I thought "I'm gonna make myself one of those but in a totally different way and design" so the next morning I went out to a place that didn't really have the parts I wanted so I altered the design in my mind slightly and got some pieces that I could put together and bam I get back and make it and realise the magnets are crap (I was worried they wouldn't work correctly in the store, but bought them anyway) I didn't quite get the right size for one piece but it should work anyway. this is probably a lesson in settling for crap quality stuff to build things with. I might buy some better magnets some other day.

I'm aware of my exaggerations and I really should have been a little more specific but I didn't expect to be trounced on. Yet I stand by my previous statement that the two most common mathematical equations you will need are trig and pythagoras (and how to rearrange formulae) and that a lot of things you learn in maths classes (excluding mechanics) have LITTLE practical day to day use. mechanics and physics both have equations that you can see in use in many aspects of day to day life, and are taught in terms of practical uses.
"In my view most ex-pupils, even many of those that follow technical professions, will never find a use for much of their maths education."

I have updated my previous post. And btw I'm actually making my own game right now and have the core engine done (physics and particle system to name some of the more mathematical features) and am currently doing the collision checking algorithms. and it's C++ and allegro not some gamemaker/other quick game development suite.

edit: also 411570N3 you counter argued my point about limited math applications to practical situations? and then went on to mention trigonometry, which being used by the modding community (myself included) which didn't really argue against my point as I said trig and pythagoras were exemp from my arguament XD

robolee the only thing proving your point right is the word "practical" which is not relevant at all so you're wrong.

It's pretentious to think that the people in the community of a game with heavy moddability, actually one that survives on it, don't create things, or know the joy of doing it.

We don't need your preaching.

ok pyro i made something for you because you said go make something

i read an RP server a story

a nice story

the cops were young 10-13 year olds, and talking over their microphone screaming i am traumatized etc the entire time

man I should have demoed it

[snipe] build RP being read a story wrote:
<3: (drr drr) Lewd stuff about Yiffing etc etc

Here I begin talking over my microphone in my negroid-sounding deep voice, because some idiot said I was using a "hack" that you can "get" while referring to me as she. I promptly begin reading the story in a sarcastic tone emphasizing spurts and certain words.

[SNiPE] Chicken: (Bird) HOLY CRAP WTF!!!
<3: (drr drr) More Lewd stuff
[SNiPE] Chicken: (Bird) HIS VOICE IS CHANGED LIKE A ROBOT!!!
<3: (drr drr) Mina moaned her pleasure yadda yadda yadda
Disconnect: Kicked by Console : "drr".
